A robust, perennial sedge native to south-eastern Australia, Carex appressa forms dense clumps of long, arching green leaves and produces brownish flower spikes from spring to summer. It commonly grows in wetlands, along creeklines, and in damp grasslands, preferring moist, well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade.
The Tall Sedge is valued in revegetation projects and native gardens for its ability to stabilise soil, provide habitat for wildlife, and support wetland biodiversity.
