A perennial, tufted herb native to southern Australia, Arthropodium strictum is well-known for its striking purple star-shaped flowers and delightful chocolate or vanilla scent. Flowering mainly in spring to early summer, it thrives in well-drained soils across grasslands, open woodlands, and rocky outcrops. The plant also produces small underground tubers, once eaten by First Nations peoples. Highly valued in revegetation projects and native gardens, the Chocolate Lily attracts pollinators and adds vibrant seasonal colour.
