A perennial tussock grass native to south-eastern Australia, Austrostipa bigeniculata features slender, wiry leaves and distinctive bent seed heads that aid in natural dispersal. It grows in grasslands, open woodlands, and well-drained soils, thriving in full sun.
The Kneed Spear-grass is valued in native gardens and revegetation projects for its drought tolerance, soil-binding roots, and ability to provide habitat and food for native fauna.
