A slender, short-lived perennial or annual herb native to Australia, Nicotiana suaveolens produces clusters of tubular, white to pale pink flowers with a strong, sweet fragrance, especially at night. Flowering mainly in summer and autumn, it is found in open forests, grasslands, and disturbed areas, often in well-drained sandy or loamy soils.

The Austral Tobacco attracts nocturnal pollinators such as moths and adds delicate beauty to native gardens, while also playing a role in ecological restoration projects.
